Hi,

I notice that water accumulates in the indentation in front of the motor mount, where the cockpit deck meets the transom on the starboard side. This tends to accumulate debris and dirt from wash downs, since it doesn't seem to have a drain. When on a starboard tack, this dirty water then spills out over the aft part of the cockpit when the boat heal which is unsightly.

I guess I am surprise there is no thru hull/drain in this area – does anyone have any good ideas how to keep it clean ?

Thanks,

Simon

My boat has a drain in that area, however the drain is ~1 in higher than the lowest point so there is always (dirty) water accumlated there. I guess that's so a small fuel spill doesnt drain out.

I found the easiest way to clean it out is to spray with a hose and allow the dirt to mix with enough water to spill out the drain.

I gave myself a nasty cut cleaning that same spot last weekend. I have a drain there but its up off the deck a little ways and does not drain completely. Your right, it collects dirt and is a eye sore. I grabbed a few paper towels and was wiping the area last weekend and found something sharp. OUCH!

Hope it wasn't too bad. I guess there is a small drain there but I can't understand why there isn't a bigger one - seems wierd. I was thinking of putting somthing in the bottom to take up the volume of the indentation so that water would flow over it - has anyone tried that ?

Hpoe your cut wasn't too bad and that you washed it out !

To me it's just one of those places I know I have to keep after. I hose it out during regular washdown and wipe it with a beat up old towel! Doesn't seem to accumulate much unless I let it go for 3 weeks.

I know the problem. On my mount the motor mount pad covers the scupper so I cut a groove in the mount pad that my dealer put on and the water slowly tricles out. It drains but it still leaves residue that must be wiped out.

When I hose that area out, I grab the port-side back stay and stand on the port cockpit combing to lean the boat. This forces most of the debris to wash out by the swim ladder. We have big trees near our slip and I find leaves clogging the little scupper by the motor mount.
