I'm the new owner of a '95 250 WB. The two windows on the port side of the boat are both cracked and need to be replaced.

A. Where's the best place to get some smoked plexiglass windows? I don't mind making a pattern and cutting the windows out of a sheet if it's cheaper.

B. How do you get the old ones out and the new ones in? It looks like they use silicone or something like it and just glue them to the side of the boat.

Any help will be appreciated. By the way, this site is just amazing. Boat loads (no pun intended) of great info.

Welcome aboard John, I also own a '95 250 WB. This month I have owned my boat for a year. This site is great for helpful information, a few laughs, and great stories. One place you might contact to get help on your window problem would be Catalina Yachts. I have contacted them for some of my problems and have received a call in responce with ideas how to solve the problem. The other area you might check is the 250 Tech Tips.

Good luck with your new boat.

John,

Welcome aboard. I also own a '95 WB, which I've had since new. It's a good boat and you'll have many good times on her. Where will you be sailing?

Dick,

I see you're from Christiana, PA. I live in Macungie, near Emmaus and Allentown. Where do you keep your boat (from the name I assume you sail the Chesapeake Bay)? In the summers we sail the Pride of Macungie out of the Bohemia Yacht Basin on the Bohemia River. She winters over under a tarp next to our garage (Go trailerables!!). In 10 years I have never seen another C250 on the water. Maybe we could meet up some weekend this summer.

We live in north Texas, so, Lake Texoma will be a good bet. Do either of you gentlemen know of any particular things I should fix or look at while I'm refurbishing (and I still have money left). Any advice or warnings would be welcome.

John, Welcome aboard. I have had my 1995 C 250 WB coming up on four years. You can "E" mail Kent@CatalinaYachts.com. He was the last tech rep I spoke to a while back. Two area's which you should be aware of is what cable is installed that raises and lowers the swing keel and what rudder is installed on your boat. Catalina was offering an upgrade kit for free to upgrade the cable that raises and lowers the swing keel. There are plenty of posts on this forum to answer most all questions you might have. Hi Fred,

Yes I do sail and cruise the Chesapeake Bay. Last year I keep the boat at Bohemia Vista just next door to you. I really enjoyed sailing the Bohemia and anchoring for lunch in Veazey Cove or around the corner in Cabin John Creek.

This year I'm moving the boat to Spring Cove Marina in Rock Hall. I wanted to be closer to Baltimore, Annapolis and and the Eastern Shore areas.

I use the boat to do more cruising and fun sailing. The help with the crusing I'm adding another battery and 30 amp service to the boat.

Would Still Pond or Fairlee Creek work for you in getting together this summer? I wonder if there are any other 250's who would want to join us?

Hi John, one idea that you might consider is adding a bimini. Check out the tech tips there is a good idea on how to install one using a bimini from iboats. Two other things to check would be the front hatch and the outside lockers. Make the hatch has rubber stripping or it will leak. Be carefull what you put into the outside lockers mine fill with rain water. I put a rubber strip around the rim of the outside locker and have not had any water seep in yet.

Hi John, I'm in NE Texas, (Longview) so am not too far from you.

Welcome to the forum and may I invite you to join C25/250 National Association...membership is cheap at twenty bucks and the value is great... includes a very well done quaterly rag dedicated to Catalina ownsers called The Mainsheet.

The Tech Tip section of the Association as well as the archives of the forum are full of information. Other locations are Mark Melchoir's "Central Texas Sailor" web site and my "Catalina 250" site. Much of my information is on target to early hull numbers such as yours.

As you have seen quickly, great sailors here willing to share and help and benefit from you as well.

Enjoy your boat and the forum and Association.

To answer your question on the windows, I'm thinking contacting Catalina. They don't charge an arm and a leg for replacement parts and it would be much simpler than making a jig and routing them out... though that is an alternative. If replacing them yourself, save what comes out and make a jig preferrably an inside one. Use calipers or drafting compass set to the radius of the router and draw a jig using the outside of the old window.

While not positive what the windows are bedded with, I'm thinking black 5200 which to remove is best done with either a guitar string if it can be positioned to saw the bedding bead or a very thin and well sharpened small putty knife.

John,
Welcome aboard! I currently have 250WB that I keep in the Rehoboth Bay Marina in Dewey Beach in the summer and wanted to let you know that it is a great place to trailer your boat to if you want to see a little ocean. A group of us circumnavigate the towns of Dewey Beach, Rehoboth Beach, and Lewes, Delaware fairly regularly and the trip is never without a pod of dolphins and often huge skates sunning themselves just offshore. The Marina has showers and the town of Dewey is a non stop party. Nearby Rehoboth, (the towns actually abut) is accessable by trolley and has some of the best restaurants on the planet. Just a thought.
On another note, any of you oldtimers out there should know that the Admiral made me an honest man two weeks ago! I inherited a 21 year old daughter (college senior) who is great and am settling into marital bliss. I never saw it coming but couldn't be happier. This gal focuses on what she wants and goes and gets it. I guess this time she was focused on me! HA!
So thats it...just about 60 days until launch and chomping at the bit...
Willy

I just realized it is Dick & Fred I should have been addressing regarding sailing the Delaware shore as it looks like John is from Texas. Thats too far even for Oscar. Anyway Fred, one of the couples that sail with us are from Boyertown although they live in Allentown now so theres ring balogna on the pier.

Willy,
What do you pay for slip fees where you are docked and how long is the season? One of the best and cheapest boat rides around is the ferry from Cape May to Delaware and then the free ride on to the outlet shops.

Bear,
boats up to 25'...$1200.00 + $23.04 (1.92%) tax unless you plan on sleeping on it every weekend, then...$1420.00 + $27.26. $100.00 for a parking permit makes my total $1323.04 to have the boat in from May 1st until OCT 31st. If you have rigged your boat for 30amp hookup thats another 300.00 for the season but I am still 12 volt with an outdoor extension cord for the fan (or ceramic heater). I don't stay all summer on the boat anymore as the admiral likes having a house, but I do sometimes and also use it for guest overflow and have had no demands for extra cash.
If you have been on the ferry than you have probably seen the dolphins!
If I remember correctly, didn't you post pics of a dachsund on this sight once? If that was you, you will be interested to know that the dock master has it's twin brother...named Cleat.

Edgy,

Congratulations on your recent nuptials. Five years ago I also got the whole package: beautiful wife, three teenagers, a dog, and a cat. Wouldn't trade it for the world.

Does your marina have a boat ramp or is there one nearby? Can I leave the boat on the trailer and just launch it when I am down?

Thanks.

There is a ramp there but you have to take your trailer about a mile up the road. Probably the easiest way for me to not get into trouble by misinforming anyone is to let you know that the dockmaster's name is Jim Beard and his number is 302 226 2012.
The address is 1117 Highway One, Dewey Beach, DE 19971.
I don't mind answering questions its just that while I have seen a lot of transients come in for a week or so, I put my boat in for the season so I am not exactly certain how it all works!
Hope to see you...
Willy
