I took the battery out of the boat for the winter, and now I have forgotten which cable is the ground coming from the electric panel. I am thinking that I remeber that black was the ground and to negetive. Is that correct?

Way to simple ! I should have known. <hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote"> I was in electronics in the Air Force. I am a high school science teacher. Electrons flow from high concentration to low concentration, i.e. to what we euphemistically call ground. Electrons have a negative charge. When I installed a DC outlet in one of my old boats I wired it according to the laws of Physics, ground is the lack of electrons; therefore positive. After I blew my RV television up someone said “look under the hood of your car”. It turns out when Cars were first being engineered they did not really understand the physics of electricity and used some terms poorly.
