Has anyone else had a problem with the snaps breaking off of their canvas hatch cover. Every time I remove the cover, I lose a couple of the snaps. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks.

May sound silly, but lube the snaps, I find they snap easier on and off. I keep a small jar of Vasolene aboard for that purpose.

Yeah, I'm always replacing mine! I decided to purchase a rather expensive snap installing tool that's kind of like a fancy vise grip with different attachments for the different ends of the snaps. It works great -- much better than the crappy kit I got where you try to install snaps with a hammer. Don't bother with one of those.

My take on lubricating the snaps is that it makes it easier for the wind to loosen them too, and I'd rather have them tight.

Yes. Had one casualty the first time I removed it. Just got a little repair kit at the fabric store and fixed it fine. Now, I just take great care in removing them and haven't had a problem.

The day I took delivery of my boat, the dealer went over a lot of things. One of the things he stressed was to get a little jar of some teflon lubricant (similar to vaseline) and keep all the snaps treated with it. I do it everytime I wash and wax, and have not lost a snap, yet (knock, knock).

What you are hearing about lubricating the snaps is correct. Add to that a caution about how you remove the cover... reach down and lift the snap away from its base instead of pulling on the fabric itself.

I completely agree w/ Max. We replace several snaps a year & the "vise grips" snap replacement is the only way to go. You can get them at West Marine - a little pricey, but I consider it an investment in a tool.

I have not seen any problems with the hatch cover snaps. I would like to eliminate need for the hatch cover and am considering a mod to add a piece of fiberglass filler to correct the hatch leak.

Lost my hatch cover in a blow soon after launching in early 2000.

I did not bother to replace it and have never had any problems.

For me, the C250WK has been great. It been in the water (fresh) for more than 3 years and has never leaked a drop.
