Now with the days getting longer and midday temps heading into the upper 40°s and lower 50°s here in the North and Northeast, it’s time to start prepping for spring launch. I usually get started in March for a late April or early May launch.
This year it’s refinishing brightwork, cleaning and polishing the hull, bottom paint and testing the outboard before launch. I’ll try and fix the worst portlight if I have time…
For brightwork, I remove all the exterior teak and sand and scrape off the old Cetol, then reapply 4-5 coats. I usually do it over the course of a week to allow drying time between coats.
For bottom paint it’s usually just scrape or sand the loose paint and touch up the gaps and thin spots.

I cut my plywood crib board replacement this weekend and got my new thin woodworking pry bar. I plan to remove the crib boards, the sliders on the opposing sides of the companionway, the scupper rings, the sliders for the cabintop, the pull handle and the end cap. The bridge will remain in place.
