I replaced these and the deck also seemed in good condition, so not worried about water there.
However, the steel plates that attach from inside the cabin are much thinner and seem overall not as strong as my old plates: the new plates actually bend just a bit once the bolts are tightened!
Curious, would be be best to use the old plates? They're old and marked from the years, but I don't see anything that is yelling at me that they're bad.
I was mostly worried about the bolts, but I'm not sure if many years of stress could also compromise these plates and cause a failure somewhere.
I figure with the plate + a heavy washer nothing could possibly happen, but thought I'd ask.
The backing plates that come in that kit are different than what Catalina used. My 87 has thick aluminum L Brackets that you can see in this photo. You could re use your old plates if you think they are better or maybe double the old and new on top of each other for strength. Your call.
