Well, I had one of my first novice mistakes last week. I noticed that my lowest batten was protruding out of the pocket by about an inch. I said to myself, just watch it and if it gets too far out hove-to and fix it. The winds were blowing and we were having our best sail since we purchased RAG Sail II and didn't want to stop. Yeah, you guessed it... we came about on a tack and lo and behold that 99" batten flew out of the pocket as if was shot out of a pea shooter! And they don't float so my ASA MOB training didn't help.
Fortunately I was able to find a replacement easily (and inexpensively by what replacement parts generally cost) but it was sold by the foot and now I have to cut it. I am assuming I should use a hacksaw. Does anyone know which blade would be appropriate for Pultruded Material (fiberglass). I bought two end caps but I think I will only be using one because the end that goes into the pocket will have to get fitted into the built-in compartment on the luff.
