Hello, folks. My C25 has two thru hulls(no marine head.) They are old gate valves, and are pretty corroded. I would like to replace them. Anyone have any idea about what I am looking at cost wise? The PR never used the water system in six years of ownership. I imagine several of the lines should be replaced, as well. Any insight would be appreciated.
Do a Search on "to-hull" in the C-25 forum. The fitting through the hull is where you should start, along with a proper ball-valve seacock. There are lots of discussions on the importance and the process.
When I did mine I made a slight change. I used a 1/2" plywood disk saturated in epoxy resin and embedded the screws from under the disk so they stood up like studs. Then the disk with studs was epoxied to the inside of the hull. Also I used the Marelon seacock and thru hull fitting.
Thanks, Chris. Great article. I know I must act soon, As I don't like the risk. By the way, Sacandaga Lake, that upstate a ways? I spent my first 10 years way upstate in the Adirondaks on a beautiful, deep mountain lake. Love Florida, but miss it up there just the same.
Yup, it's in the southern Adirondacks. I wouldn't trade the Adirondack for anything. It's not the best sailing in the world, but for everything else it can't be beat.
