I douse it, jibe, then re-hoist it. I don't take it down, I just use the sock. You could Jibe around the stay, but I haven't tried it yet. I think I'd need longer sheets. That said, it would stay where it is. I have a line running from the bottom of the tacker back to a cam cleat at the cockpit so i can adjust the height of it.
Your pictures bring back a lot of memories. I've sailed those coves and seen those sunsets many times in my youth water skiing behind our old trihull and sailing my Hobie 16.
Btw... I run my sheets on the outside of the stanchions and can sheet in far enough to run close-hauled.
My wife after I proposed. It was sort of chilly as it was beginning of the season... but i tricked her to go out for the first sail of the year (in 2010), and I popped the question right when we were chilling out (kind of freezing) sitting on the bow. In the pic she went below to warm up a bit and collect her thoughts. :-) Most people (non-sailors) told me that I was crazy... but to us that was one special "sail".
And that's me and my Shy Tuna couple years ago as well.
I should dig up some more recent pics as now all the teak is done and she looks even prettier.
The fishing was after this happened on my dock. Anyone in the DFW area may have seen this on the news. Apparently a 27 foot plus power boat was gassing up at the dock, failed to turn his bilge blowers on, turned the key, and caught on fire. The boat was pushed from the gas dock, and drifted under August Blaze, then burnt the stern of Bobcat, all on the gas dock side. Three boats were lost, others were saved. I arrived at the aftermath. My boat is on this dock within 50 feet of this, fortunately, no apparent damage to Stephanos. Those of you near gas docks might consider moving. I'll stay on my side with pump out, thank you.
The gas dock in the background.
The Macregor 26 that is probably a total loss. A young couple had just bought it, their first boat.
Stephanos is on the right hand side, behind the Oday 27 on the hoist. Too close for comfort for sure.
The stinpot that blew up at was pulled into this slip by the fire boat where it sank. EPA and everyone is involved.
Jeff's Benetau. He is an instructor for Inland Sailing. He has two months of classes booked up. I have offered free use of Stephanos.

IDK, I'd still be pissed even if the boat's insured. Most boat owners really love their boats.

Did someone burn up your sailboat? Did you lose the use of your pleasure craft? Is their insurance company giving you the run around? Call me and I'll HAMMER them! I got Steve Smith $90k cash, in his pocket! Mary got bumped by a shopping cart, I got her $45k cash, in her pocket! Don't mess around, Hammer them! Call me, the Texas Hammer!
Disappointed, yes. Being p.o.ed is a waste of karma. Things happen, and I'm sure the owner of the power boat is just as disappointed with the loss of his boat, and he has to deal with being at fault for all that ensued. I would be thankful for no serious injuries and would rather just have lost my boat than have destroyed others.

The power boat owner was on board with a toddler and his wife, apparently broke his arm getting everyone off the boat. The Beneteau owner runs a sailing school and was booked up for two months. Sad all the way around. I just came back from the marina, environmental team is out there trying to clean up.
Just wait for all of the insurance claims. Even the Marina will be after him for damages to their docks etc. Probably get a whopper of a bill from the DEC for the clean up. You can never have enough liability insurance for this. And all the guy wanted to do was take is family out for a nice boat ride. Amazing how things can go south real fast.
Exciting times here in DFW. My boat is fine after yesterday's string of tornadoes. Here is a clip I shot from the office at I-30 and Motley in Mesquite.
OJ, You would think but If you read the the slip agreements that you sign with these Marinas, They are written totally in their favor, They can sue you for any damages and clean ups that your vessel may cause to their Marina. You on the other hand can't sue them for squat.Totally one sided agreements. Make sure you have lots of liability coverage.
Race yesterday. Obviously this is before the start. The Hobie 33 in the back ground is Soap Opera. She actually was a winner of the double handed transpac a few years ago.
