Full batten mainsail any member using one? How does the sail perform and do you like it better th the regular sail. I have a tall rig and interested in a full batten main. Thanks Ken

Like all things there are "pros and cons". I decided to go with a new main last year where the top two battens are full and two partial on the bottom for easy reefing.

Here is a very good link for "too much information" :-) interesting reading.

We've got full battens, I believe it's an asset in mild breezes. They are not issues when reefing, in fact it's helpful to keep the sail withing the lazyjack lines.

I sail in Long Island Sound with a long period of light air and being able to induce shape in the sail with partials is a must to get any power and lift.</font id="navy"></font id="size2"></font id="Comic Sans MS">

I have the Full Batten Loose Footed main from Ullman on my TR, I love it. I have sailed the original main which is bagged out and I had a much harder time getting good sail shape and laminar flow over the sail, but that is not a fair comparison due to the age of the original main and the stretch of the fabric.

I especially like the ability to stack the sail quickly when I reef or drop the main, as I single hand most of the time. I would purchase the full batten sail again for the TR, no question.

Note that I don't currently race this boat, but I do appreciate good sail trim.

My next main probably would have been full-battened from Ullman (and also probably loose-footed), for two objectives:

1. Good (not necessarily <i>ideal</i>) shape in "most" situations with a minimum of fuss, and...

2. Longer life due to less tendency to stretch (I've been led to believe).

I didn't race my C-25, except for those "two sailboats on the same tack" situations...
