Bought new tips a year ago and they're already cracked! Is there any alternative or a way to preserve them from UV, like sunscreen? Lol

I guess you could try the 303 stuff but I got some tips from Ace Hardware. They are vinyl and lasted 3yrs. I tried the cane tips (rubber) but they only lasted 1 yr. At 4-5 bucks a set, cheep enough. Hey I just had an idea, How about little sunbrella covers, We could make $MILLIONS$

I think they are less than $2.00 for a pair or two at Walmart. I put a new set on each season.

That sounds like a cheap enough alternative, even if I had to buy 5 sets.

I just saw the 303 stuff. If it worked, I'm not sure it would have a 3 year shelf life to justify the cost versus just buying some more tips.

I wonder if some auto interior spray could work the same if outdoors? Since I use it on the vehicles, it would get used before the shelflife runs out.

Have the rest of you just been buying new ones every year or two?

The 303 does work. I use it for my Bimini straps and all of the Sunbrella covers but these are cloth and it soaks into the fabric. I would guess it would just wash off the tips.

I wish I knew what kind of tips are on Pearl; they were scuffed and old but still soft and untracked when I bought her and are the same now. I have another set in an unmarked plastic bag that are not for sale. I think they might have come from secret alien technology in Roswell.

Anyone know what size (diameter) to use? My local Wal-Mart had them for $1.77 for a set of two in sizes over 1", and the 1" ones were $1.77 for a set of four.

I have not change the seriously deteriorated rubber tips in all the years that I have had my boat. Reading these posts....maybe I should change them out.

Scott, I like the idea of little Sunbrella covers !!

The PO apparently didn't like changing them out either. One was missing when I bought her, and now the hull has a nice round impression where the ladder sat. The other one was about to fall off.

Thanks for the alternative tips! I'll swing by Walmart on the way home. ACE closed in my area.

Gray duct tape should work fine, eh! And you don't have to worry about them slipping off!
