Sale at Pep Boys good thru 1/1/2012 while supplies last: I just snagged a Peak 1 million candle power halogen bulb rechargeable spotlight, with built-in small LED flashlight under the big light and cig lighter recharging cord. $12 before mail-in rebate, $2 after rebate! It can also be plugged into a 110/120 volt extension cord to recharge.

I bought two of these in a combo pack (red & bronze) for $14 and another one without the flashlight (chrome) for $9.95.
The one without the flashlight has been on for 6+ hours each of the last two nights and is still burning now. With 3 new AAA batteries it's very bright. I thought it might work for a steaming light in a pinch.
I got one of those LED Mag lights last year at Lowes on sale....wicked bright light! So far superior to traditional incandescent models it's not even funny.
The entire unit could be sealed for cheap and complete waterproofing. Sealed units should be cheaper than incandescent assemblies, not 2 - 5 times as much.
David, thanks for the reminder! I saw that in their circular, then promptly forgot to get it when I was there over the weekend. Popped into the local PepBoys at lunch and picked up two!
Here's another cool one, saw it at the store yesterday, a Life Gear multi-purpose light/lantern at Academy Sports: runs on 4 AA's, 9 led's in the flashlight, 4 red led's in the translucient body, solid for night vision or flashing for distress, AND 2 cfl bulbs in the body where a 6 volt battery normally would be. Also, there are exterior contacts so that if it falls in the water it comes on automatically!
Thanks for the tip on the LifeGear Glow 400, Rick. I think I'll get two for the house tomorrow - one for upstairs and one for downstairs. The batteries ate up my old ones. It's time to replace them.
I went to Target and bought several of the 400s and one that recharges in s 12 volt socket and one that looks like a light stick, all much cheaper than similar EverReady products. the entire Glow product line is very aggressive in their product pricing. Menards is a home improvement store in the region and they have the same products with a subtly different name, but still says GLOW. The Chinese are getting very good a capitalism.
