The company does great work and they're very fast. My new lettering for Passage went on easily and it looks great. I'd advise a little homework regarding the font and the size of the letters.

With a thin font, being 5" tall - while they're OK, I could have gone with 6" lettering. If you select a bolder font, you may not need the letters to be as large.

One word of caution however, if you order them now, make sure to apply them within 4-6 weeks of their arrival. The manufacturer warns that over the course of a few months, the lettering can get stuck to the backing material making it difficult to apply the letters smoothly.

Bruce - What font did you select? I like your capital letters, though I plan to use upper and lowercase (plus shadows), so I won't be doing an exact knock-off of yours. But I could not see your font style in any of the selection options.

[EDIT: Oops, never mind, it's good ole Monotype Corsiva. I did not recognize it in all caps.]

That's correct.

I wanted "Small Caps" where the first letter is a large capital letter and the rest are caps, but of a smaller font size.

I could have done that "manually" [ordered 'P' as a 6 inch letter and 'assage' as 4 inch letters] but I wanted it all to be a single block together on one sheet.

Peter,
I like the font and the look. What's the significance of the name?

Randy or other C250 owners,

Which of this company's colors best matches the Catalina "Midwatch Blue"? Would it be Dark Blue, Ultramarine Blue, or some other?

My 1998 has the second turquoise stripe, so I'd like to get a turquoise shadow. Their "Petrol" color looks pretty close. Do any of you have direct experience with the color match?

I believe Boat US/West Marine is more expensive but their Graphics Dept was and believe still part of the Boat US Headquarters in Alexandria, VA ( which is in my neck of the woods). My blue lettering is a bit darker than the boat trim blue but closer match than it seems from the photo. Lettering is now almost 5 years old. When I scuffed up one of the letters approaching my finger slip, I went down to Boat US to get a replacement strip of same color and Boat US looked up my order and cut me a 1 foot scrap for free.

The greatlettering.com deal is a great price at 60% off. I wanted to order yesterday but was unsure of size/color and could not find the font I liked (since Monotype Corsiva hidden in the "standard" menu instead of "script"). I figured if this deal had been in place since July 1, 2009 it would be good for another day. (I didn't see the edit date of Aug. 30, 2010 tucked under Steve's profile picture.) Unfortunately I tried to use the promo code today and it would not take it. I poked around their website and finally came across a page that said the deal was only good until August 31 (as Steve had mentioned, but I thought he wrote that a year ago).

I guess with my sloppy reading it was just a bad day!

Oh, well, I guess I'll just have to continue looking. Although their price was good, they have no telephone support and take 2-3 days to respond to questions by email. For 60% off I might have taken a chance on the color match (now that I found the font and measured the size I need), but at their regular price I have other graphics houses that will give better service, such as phone support and sending me swatches to verify color match.

Thank you. Stephanos is a Greek reference to "The Victor's crown" or "crown" and has some Biblical implications. Considering what I have been through in my life, this first keel boat for me was a great achievement. I got the idea from my band, which has a song by the same name. I wanted to have a name for her which would be unique.

So to apply these, I guess I'm going to have to borrow a hydro hoist or have you guys applied lettering while floating?

I ordered my "name" from a local graphics guy. For $60 CDN I got the name (3X) Hailing port (1X) and registration numbers (4X) - a spare set because sizing looked small on the sheet) Local pickup so no shipping stuff to deal with and i was able to deal with the guy who cut the vinyl.

It may be worthwhile to call up some local sign shops, auto graphics places, etc. and see what they have to offer.

Did you put the hailing port lettering on the stern? Where did you position it if you did? Beside the rudder or did you do it as an arc with the port city name across the top of the rudder and the state crossing behind the rudder? What size lettering did you use in your hailing port graphics? And, how wide and long was the printed lettering?

Thanks!

The C250's transom is a little different from yours, but I suspect you'll want to see as many examples as possible, so here's mine. (Also note the emergency pull cord that allows a MOB to drop the ladder from outside the boat):

This was 3" Monotype Corsiva (chosen to match the boat name on the sides). My boat is not documented, so their typical restrictions on size and style of hailing port do not apply.

Note that this company in NJ measures font heights from the very top of letters to the very bottom of any downward extensions (NOT to the "baseline"). So 3" upper case letters are actually more like 2 1/4" high.

I'm trying to order, but the online program for creating and previewing my text isn't working. I registered, but when I click on "preview" to see what it will look like, I get no image and no price. Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong?

Disregard my last post. I used a different computer and made my order with no problem. I don't understand why it worked with one computer but not the other, but I guess it doesn't matter now. I got the discount.

That might account for it. The computer that didn't work has Windows 7, and the one that worked has Windows XP. Maybe their software isn't compatible with Win 7.

I've seen some weird issues with newer versions of Internet Explorer not "playing well" with some sites. I keep a copy of FireFox installed on my computer, too, for just such "emergencies". I'm not sure why, but I tend to like IE a little better. FireFox works just fine, and tends to be more compatible with other web sites (they use the "true" HTML standard, not Microsoft's version of the standard, as the baseline for FireFox, which I think is what contributes to this).

Anyway...this pushes the thread pretty far off topic. You're welcome to PM me if you have other questions. I should warn you, though, I'm a reformed computer person, so I may not be able to answer all of them!
