Hello Frank,

I was looking at your boat pictures.

What kind of sandblasting equipment did you use to clean the bottom of the 82 boat?

cheers

I had my boat bottom soda blasted maybe four years ago. Soda is easier on the gelcoat, The gentlman had done boats before and did a great job. I had a surveyor check it for moisture and then applied four coats of barrier paint.

Soda blasting = shaking up a bottle of cola and aiming it at the hull?

I think it's done with a 2 liter Coke and a package of Mentos.

It is Soda Blasting. I found a guy who did it to collectable Corvettes, he thought it was great fun to do a boat. I paid $300, but I think that is a bit low for market price. It was wonderful, followed with a serious barrier coat. I felt it gave a new life to the hull.
On my '89 I was able to use very high pressure water to get to the bare bottom because of the factory barrier coat on '89s, it left the barrier in tact. I assume that once a good barrier coat is laid down you can strip your bottom with a gas powered pressure washer like I did on the '89. Having had Hydrocoat on the '82 and VC17 on the '89 I would never use anything other than VC17 if at all possible.

Dang, if that's soda blasting, I'd be happy to hire my kids out. I'm sure they'd be willing to charge a lot less than $300 so squirt Coke at a hull.

(OK, that's my last soda "joke", I promise)

Thanks everybody for your help.

Thanks for the valuable insights Jim. I bet Kids, a boat and Soda, That would be a Blast, Huh?

I may plan some cleaning on my hull, I would love to have a nice White hull for a change.
