I have a port light in that spot, but it does not stick out like that. It also does not have the drain grooves.

Dave (<i>Bamboo</i>), I had the same issue....a real ankle biter. You should verify this, but I recall that the on-line installation instructions for the port light state that it should be nearly flush with its frame, i.e. not project into the cockpit. As ours was leaking (poor factory installation), I removed the portlight and cut down the piece that extends into the cockpit so that it now projects in only about 1/4". Problems (leak and ankle biting) resolved. I'm sure you could cut yours down in place if you chose, but the port light is also easy to remove. The frame material is easy to work. The port light and its location are great but I think Catalina cut a few corners on the installation or the installation instructions have evolved over the years.

Thanks for the info Gerry. I haven't tried to remove it or cut the protrusion down yet, thought about trimming it in place but if it's that easy to remove that's what I'll do!

Dave,
What about mounting a winch handle pocket on the side you tend to hit the most. Or mount a strip of beveled Starboard on each side to help you slide over it.

If your port light is not leaking, I'd be tempted to trim it in place...a fine-toothed handsaw, sandpaper (wet&dry) and a little patience. Removing the port light is not difficult but the details of reinstalling it is a bit of a project. If you need details to help you decide on which approach, let me know.

Thanks. It doesn't leak so I'll take a closer look at it to see how hard it'd be to trim in place. Just don't want to do a crappy job due to awkward of access.
