Next Monday My SK is slipped for the first time since I purchased one year ago. I purchased the new Keel cable roller and Rubber hose ready . Yesterday I cleared away ready and found that the lower end of the rubber hose has been fibreglassed around and back to the hull . Great it is safe from sinking due to hose failure but I will need to cut the Fiberglass away to replace the Tube and Ball .
I remember seeing a photo of a modification that had a PVC plastic pipe fixed from the hull up to above water level as a safety measure against hose failure Have search for this without luck . Does anyone remember or have similar modification . Great summer down here . Hope you are not all in hibernation Thanks

When you get all the glass off the neck of the through hull it should look like this, (which leaves plenty of room for two clamps):
So, where is your hose from? When I did mine a number of years ago the tech support at catalinadirect.com convinced me that the marine exhaust grade hose was the correct hose to use; sounded like tough hose to me. Is your hose that grade of hose? The tech also convinced me that band clamps without through cut threads were important, so the "teeth" of the threads would not chew the outer cover of the hose as you tightened it home.
Thanks for the Photo,s It will be a great help as I try to cut the fibreglass away and judge the distance down from the one clamp I can feel under the glass . I purchased the Hose and ball from Catalina direct to make sure I had the correct parts . I will clean up and glass a flange to the hull that will allow a piece of pipe to fit in to give protection and as the water level is close to the bunk level will bring it 1 inch above .. I will photo it all and post in a few weeks Thanks again
Frank , Thanks for the Photo,s My boat is now back in the water . The Fibreglass was cut away from the Cable hose and I found the ball cut thru and the SS shaft worn . The thru hull brass tube had corroded and the ball shaft had no support . The Shipwright then fitted a standard Flanged Thru hull fitting with the ball fitted . Thru hull had to be cut and M/C'ed . But is great with a flange on both sides of the hull and good epoxy bond . Your photo was invaluable is showing what it should look like . The forum is a great help .. ( I just cannot see how to include a photo as you did ??)_ thanks all Graeme Bishop
If you click on the "reply to" icon at the top of one of my photo posts you will see the HTML code the forum uses. Because I use the "quick reply" function rather than the "Reply To Topic" option I always simply type the open bracket img close bracket, then the open bracket /img and close bracket and then paste my jpg url between the "begin image" command and "end image" command. (/ means end a command.) I think most use the "Reply to Topic" function and use the "insert Photo" icon. The big deal is your phot CANNOT simply be on your computer, notice I said I paste the jpg URL. The photo must be online somewhere. I use Apple's MobileMe as a photo host because I know MACINTOSH ROCKS!
This is an attempt to post a photo of final repair So far so good The Ball was Very warn Replacement was from Cat Direct ..Tube was 2inch too long Hope the weather is not to severe. Great here 25 deg C Graeme
Yes , The fact it has a flange under the hull and the screw down flange in the photo gave me a lot of confidence in the repair. The Ball is CD's and the thru hull is a modified standard brass thru hull fitting
AND a big thanks to Don for fixing the photo's . I will try another web site to store the photos for my next try
