Its been a few years since I've had Tortuga in the water and I had a heck of a time with the CDI FF2 (w/o ball bearings) roller furling.
1. Is there a recommended lubricant for the jib roller furling track? Wax perhaps? I had a really hard time raising it this weekend.
2. Before raising the jib, the roller furling drum was sitting in the metal housing (cup) perfectly. As I haul on the jib and pushed the sail up the track, the drum tends to raise up out of the cup. I cant see anything that holds it in place except for gravity. Is this correct?
There is suppose to be a pin that runs through the drum that supports the weight of the luff. When you are raising the sail, if the pin is in place, you would have to raise the weight of the luff and the drum for it to raise out of the cup. Once the sail is raised, and the internal halyard and tack are tied off, you have to support the weight of the sail, luff and drum for it to rise. If you already have the pin in place and the spool is rising when raising the sail you can tie it down temporarily using one of the anchor pin shackles. Notice the pin in the picture below secured with the cotter ring. The anchor pin shackles are not in place in the picture.
