This is our first season with a 250WB and we love it. When we sail downwind or reach and there is wave action, the swing keel seems to noticeably swing up & down slightly, creating a sound and slight bang you can hear & feel. This can't be good for the boat. Should we be retracting the keel when saling downwind or is there a locking device to hold the keel in place?
Dick, You have a centerboard, not a swing keel. I keep my centerboard retracted about two good handfuls of the retract rope all year long. The noise you hear could be side to side play which is fixed by reshimming the swing keel bearing. Don't know of a locking device.
Wayne, thanks for the correction and info. Last boat was a swing keel and I thought about that after I sent it. I'll try the retract line and check the bearing. By the way, I'm a Siena alum.
Siena lost there coach this year to Iowa State, we don't have many sports teams around here that do that well. Siena Basketball had gathered a huge following.
