Hi - I am reassembling my mast after the winter drop, inspection and part upgrade. Stupid question , is there a difference in port/starboard spreaders? I forgot to mark them when I removed them last fall.
And how do I attach the spreader ends to the shrouds? They were wrapped with wire to the spreader that I do not know if I can re-create.
Tom - thanks for finding my thread from last year. I still don't really understand the winding of the wire around the shroud. but will attempt it anyway (it was such a neatly done job originally, it seems as if it must have been done with a machine or tool)
Hi All- I need to do some spreader work before the mast goes up in a couple weeks. Quick question: Should the spreaders have any lateral plat in them? Mine seem to wiggle around a bit as if the tube is slightly smaller than the base. thanks
A little "wiggle" allows you to adjust the angles somewhat and make the two spreaders match. The position should be such that the angle with the lower segment of the shroud is the same as the angle with the upper segment--which is why they are swept upward. That ensures the load is pure compression--no bending moment.
