Never never never lock the swing keel of a Catalina 25 never never
It weighs 1500 pounds, it will not come up in a wave or broach. If your keel slams into your hull on a Catalina 25 you will already be sinking for another bigger reason.
It is a bad idea on 22s unless you are in deep water where you will never ever run aground.
If you are concerned about the old keel clung when the keel moves sideways, you may want to use spacers on it, either get them from Catalina Direct or make your own.
Amen to all the above. You find you really don't need it -- that big hunk of iron stays down in some pretty big waves. Been there, done that.
My keel clunked when I first bought it, but after replacing the keel hangers -- which are designed too wide and need to be machined down to fit -- and the pivot pin, there's been nary a clunk in twelve years.
