Hi I recently purchased a 82 tall rig Catalina 25 and the Jib blocks are showing their age any suggestions ... mainly will use for weekend trips not much racing as of yet Would appriciate any suggestions on where to pick up replacements Steve
I tried this model of the Garhauer genoa car and returned them. While it did pivot port to starboard, it did not swivel to accomodate the angle of the foresail sheets - causing the sheets to chafe on the cheeks. The genoa cars found on the later model 25s also do not swivel but have a much wider sheave allowing the sheet to come across the sheave at an angle + the cheeks are further apart - eliminating chafe. I never did locate the source of the wider car. You might consider Garhauer's "Track Car Single Block" series as they do swivel - very similar to what came on the boat but constructed of better materials.
Check out blocks at defender.com. You'll probably find what you are looking for. The original wide sheave genoa fairlead blocks on the tracks are designed to handle double sheets for sail changes.

On my first C 25 I replaced all the blocks with Garhauer 25 series, including the genoa cars with a Garhauer double. On my second C 25 I would not let a Garhauer on board. IMHO They are cheap, bend, and are not worth the money. I think blocks are one of those things where the more you pay the more you get. I enjoyed buy nice blocks on ebay. Blocks are of course an entire subject on their own, remember that bearings vs bushing is a question of application not of technology, use the right blocks for the right job. Genoa cars should be stand up swivels so they can handle any angle, the stand up swivel genoa car from Garhauer is probably their best product. Enjoy the group, they are amazing people.
