I know this topic has been covered before, but I can't seem to access the archived posts. I am installing an Edson pedestal guard this weekend, and just wanted to hear any installation tips. We are having a great sailing season at Elk Lake in the Cascade mountains of Central Oregon. The new folding cockpit table and cup holders will enhance the experience.

David, the thing I would ad is that to remove the binnacle compass there are three screws that get removed. They are evenly spaced around the compass so you should be able to identify them. We also have a folding cockpit table and a drink holder mounted on the pedestal. They are great additions.
Thanks for your responses. Are there any issues with the 58" guard interfering with the mast on take down? I noticed Randy's comments about not being able to install the 54" version with the mast down in the lowest position. I don't plan to mount instruments on the guard, so would it be a could idea to cut down the length?
It will not interfere. It was just not possible to raise up the whole pedestal guard above the compass (where the pedestal guard bracket is installed) with the mast lowered right above it. You have to feed the legs of the guard through the holes in the bracket. Now that it is installed there is no problem. I would suggest you not to cut it yet. You may change your mind on installing instruments on it.
