I don't know how many times I could have used this thing in the past. Decent color screen, adjustable light, the only thing that would be nice is if the whole thing were a bit slimmer, the head's about 1/2" diameter or so, but still, I want one.
I could have definitely used this while working on my mast over the summer, as well as trying to run cables & bilge hoses, etc.

This is the first winter I've left my boat in the water here in Maryland, and so "I'm Dreaming of a non-White Christmas!" Last year there were a number of nice warm/cool sunny days over the winter, and I would have loved to head out for a day sail.
So far, we've had small craft warnings, gale warnings, and some snow, so I figure the pendulum will swing around to warmer winter weather soon. Here are the rosy cheeks I plan to have
Incredibly, I tried but could not think of any items I need for the boat this Christmas. Right now I am feeling that good health, the love of friends and family, and time to enjoy all that life offers is plenty of gifts for me.
The main thing I hope for in 2009 is that the economy recovers. It is really sad to see the impact it is having on so many people.
Sorry for the soap box. I think the electronic inspector thing is cool.

Rita & I thought about this some time ago as well. We spent a bunch of money & time the first two years with SL, and now we can't think of anything major that we need (or want) for the boat. Sure there are little things that could be added, but in general, the boat's in pretty good shape.
Continuing the hijack of my own topic, regarding health, Rita & I are spending my current in-between-jobs time getting ourselves a bit healthier. We bought a Wii Fit & have been playing that plus other active (as in off the couch) games on the Wii. We can both already feel the change. We've also started walking, and working on projects around the house to keep busy & active.
Regarding the economy. My company laid off 15% or so of staff the week before Thanksgiving, including me. I knew a layoff was coming, but didn't figure I'd be on the list, but there you go. I'm not overly concerned about finding a new job, I've got tons of contacts from Microsoft & recruiting agencies, so something will turn up. We won't have to touch any savings/investments, etc. for months, so we'll be able to ride this out. Hah, I just remembered, I sold an old hottub earlier this week & one of the guys who called about it was a land surveyor, and one of his first questions after I told him I was too was: "are you looking for work?". So possibly I've already got a job (he's bidding on a project to run a pipeline from OR to ID).
I am like some of you. I have pretty much all I need. A job to pay the mort. and slip fees, a family, pretty good health and great friends to enjoy a bottle of wine with.
I feel fortunate I has as much as I do but feel for those who don't. And I hear it will get worse. My business-insurance- has been affected but I have not laid of anyone and don't plan to.
For me, this is the year of contentment. I am happy with what I have and dont need more things. I hope to get as much sailing in as possible, baring poor weather. I feel lucky to be able to sail all year round. What more can I ask for!
Ok, I'll be honest... More time on the water in any boat! Finish my bathroom upgrade before christmas Rebuild my solar panel mount (take it off the mast crutch so it's not in shadow when the mast is down) Rebuild my TV Antenna mount (so that it doesn't brush the trees when we trailer JD.) Rebuild my Cabin table, works but is tooooo big! Add a shelf to the back of the galley (now the the old TV stand has been removed.) Build a new TV mounting assembly (for the 15" DTV ) Do some minor fiberglass repairs (ding in top front of swing keel, hole on fwd edge of the poptop sliding hatch hand hold, 1/4" ding in combing) Replace all the lamps onboard with LEDs Install my new 2 SpinLoks and rerun the outhaul and topping lift lines (thanks for the spinloks Jason!)
That's really my project list. I really want Peggy to feel more confident with the employment situation in the health field down here in sofla. It has a lot of Doctors, Nurses, and hospital workers very worried.
Finally, I would like more members to use and get the great benefits that we share in this Association and Forum!
I've owned my Gallivant for 20 years - purchased new in 1988, and have about everything on it I think I need. I've been giving some passing thought to adding a sprit to mount a furler for my asymetric spinnaker and mid-boom sheeting. The former is pie-in-the-sky wishing.
The latter is more to my budget's liking. I have a plan to recess the track so that it is flush with the seat. Looks good on paper but then, I'll have to cut a slot in each seat, which I'm hesitant to do.
