Can someone tell me where the new upgraded stem fitting bolts to the hull? Is it above the anchor locker drain or below? How far down does the strap extend below the hull/deck joint?
Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan,

just stepping in to tell you that some C-25ers don't do the mod that you are contemplating, preferring to rig a tang or cable on the interior of the anchor locker from the trailer EYE bolt to the stem fitting. Serves the same purpose with out all the fuss of tunneling behind the rub rail.

If my memory is working this AM,(it isn't always) Snickerdoodle, Bill Holmcome's boat uses such a device and is pictured in his list of mods.

This is one of the upgrades I did on my boat when I first bought it. You can get at the stem fitting through the access port in the V-berth, it's just forward of and under the anchor locker.

I did some searching around and could not find Bill's mods. Can you point me in th right direction?

I haven't heard about this mod as an alternative to the upgraded stem fitting. Does anyone have experience with this and recommend for or against it?

This upgrade is on my list for this summer.

Thanks,
Todd

On my boat, all I had to do was open the access port, unscrew the nuts put the backing plate on and screw the nuts down again. You might get in there and have a look at your before you decide. It sounds from what Tinob said that maybe he couldn't get at his stem fitting easily. If this is the case, you would want to be sure your bolts are easily accessible. On mine they are in plain sight and no special tools or extra work required.

Snickerdoodle appears to have the upgraded stem fitting.
