The Admiral has decreed that we're gonna be sailing for the 4th. I suggested we head north, as we've never gone much beyond the Richmond-San Rafael bridge.
I'm looking for suggestions for the north Bay and Delta, suitable for a three day weekend. We're docked in Richmond's Marina Bay, so we're in the right place to start off.
Looking at some of the stink pot forums, it might be better to stay out of the Delta itself - heavy crowds and drinking.
I don't have any suggestions, unless you want to come down to Newport Beach, CA. Sounds like a great trip. You are fortunate admiral made that kind of a decree! Steve A
We took a cruise from Brisbane to Petaluma. It was quite pleasant going up the river. If you plan it right you can get the RR bridge open and dock right downtown. We stayed at the marina. Call ahead for space. Walked to town and back (actually hitched a ride to town half way there). It's not a real long walk. Shops/restraunts for the ladies. Nice Irish pub. Also, up to the Napa Marina might be a thought. Never done that. You could stop off at Six Flags I think if you are so inclined or have kids.
Anchoring at Treasure Island can be a blast for the 4th fireworks show in SF... and sometimes other nearby communities do fireworks as well so you can have 360deg. fireworks. The Petaluma cruize is a good one...go with the tide, up and back, many times can get a decent sail. The delta can be a real"zoo" on week ends or holidays so be prepared to be on lookout for waterskiers coming around blind turns. But if its cold in bay and you want to be warm or hot the delta is the place with kick back boating but very little sailing. Take care, dave
The Petaluma River actually sounds like fun. I've read a fair bit on the Napa river, but am not finding much on the Petaluma. Anybody have some links describing the river and planning for such a trip?
