we were looking to buy a new 135 genoa. ended up contacting catalina yachts. (not catalina direct) the new genoa with sunbrella protection and a canvas package in the new Captian Navy color that they are now using, including the mainsail cover, compaion way cover, pedestal/wheel cover and winch covers cost much less than anywhere else. Fantasy 409 will look brand new this spring.

Their web site sure isn't very user friendly. I never talked with them about sails since their web site doesn't give any indication that they are in that business. I simply assumed they would act as a "middle man" for the loft that they buy from for new boats. Care to share how much less? I'm looking for new sail, companionway, winch and lifeline covers to match my new forest green headsail UV protector.

hi john, you are right about the site not mentioning sails or canvas. we just decided to call them. i dont have the papers right in front of me. but the 135 genoa with sunbrella protection was about $830.00 and the canvas package was about $320.00. including the mainsail cover, pedestal/wheel cover and the winch covers. the companion way cover was additional. there is another package available for the tiller version. i dont know if they offer other colors, we were interested in the captain navy. if you call them, ask for the parts department, they were very helpful.

I do not have the costs for you, but I can tell you that Catalina is one of the few boat builders that has their own in-house sail loft. The sails are made in California, and we have been very please with the overall quality and longevity of the product.

Any idea how much they charge for a T/R 135 hank-on? Be interesting to compare to what I'm paying for the new Rolly T.

Lanie,
a couple of points to watch for with the canvas order.
We purchased our canvas package new with the boat 2005. Not even a novice at that time so I didn't know any better.
The Wheel & Pedestal cover was plain wrong! we had to have them (who made it I couldn't tell you) re-cut it as it would not fit over the pedestal and wheel and there was no way of securing it (it subsequently flew off on the turnpike somewhere, our fault as normally we would wrap line around it.)

The mainsail cover could have been made for another boat! there is about 6" of slack canvas under the boom and the leather 'grommet' that the topping lift passes through is virtually useless.

Now in 20/20 hindsight, I would ask for the dimensions of everything and make sure that I could request adjustments if it didn't fit correctly.

Our package included the hatch-board cover, the corners at the top of the hatch-board/front of the sliding hatch have leather reinforcements, but they were the first thing to fail.
The winch covers are great, fit like a glove, easy to put on but won't fly off at 65mph!

I keep a 6" fender under the cabin top canvas to keep the rain from puddling.

Paul

hi paul,
first of all, i want to thank you for all your help trying to get me back on the forum, remember me, I WAS THE ONE ON WEB.TV... i finally figured out for whatever reason i had to change my password.. thank you for your information about the fit. catalina had asked us for all the dimensions UP FRONT.we had to measure everything. having said that, i am sure that something won't fit. but i am sure they will correct it. they were so nice to deal with. will keep you posted. since we are in boston, we probably won't get to try this until may.. thanks again for all your help. lanie

I also have a 2005 WK with wheel steering. I purchased the 'full' canvas package as well however my covers fit like a glove, maybe you don't have the Catalina version eh? I do suspect that the covers are not road rated though! :)

we actually pruchased the boat brand new and it did come with the canvas package. it also fit perfectly. so i am not worried about the new canvas fitting. except maybe the companion way cover, the boat actually had two companion way covers in the package, i am sure by mistake, one fit but on the other one some of the snaps did not line up with the snaps on the boat. after nine years, it is begining to look a little tired. so i am sure the new captain navy will look great.
