The original drawing shows the plexi to be 1/4 inch thick and the replacement acrylic from CD, I'm gestimating from memory now, beveled it sits below the routed edges, so I'd guess it might be 3/8 inch thick.
Thanks Ray. I was guessing they couldn't bump it up by much more than that. I have found a plastics guy locally who can fab it for me, so I'm gonna give the replacement part teh old college try.
Update..... My Catalina Direct replacement deadlight leaks, after a really good install, and it was just replaced last year...
The lens warps up and the caulk seal opens up. Prospector had/has a better Idea!
My girlfrnd works at a sign company and already wants to help me by providing a new lens, as they throw away big pieces of plexi every day.
Not my boat, but another Catalina on the other side of the dock from me.. and mine has done the same thing ( warping up and leaking ). I could have done research looking at the boat just across from mine...
Mine doesn't leak and isn't warped....however, I do have the round hole for the cowl vent, and the plug leaks. Minor, but just another thing on my list.
I wouldn't mind having the cowl vent.....if anyone has one......
Funny.. if CD had sent me a plexi lens designed just as shown on the original specs drawing it would have worked.
The one they sent was not routed out with a radius on the corners, and was bevel cut leaving the top edge very thin and right at the deck level with sharp corners.
Anyhoo... back to my drawing board.... looks like 8 1/16 by 4 1/16 by 1/4 thick...beveled bottom edge and radius corners. A little more room for caulk and flexing...
Yeas - smoked but I forget whether it was lexan or plexiglas or what. I trusted the judgement of the fab shop on that part. I also got mine bevelled. No trouble so far. I think the pics are still up on that post on teh Iris blog. Let me find the link...
ETA: No luck - the pics are lost. I can try to restore them sometime. The instructions are all there though, with a pretty decent description of how I had the part made.
The entry is July 29, 2010.
This is a timely subject since I was thinking of having hatchboards made up in lieu of the dinghy I didn't get to buy
