I installed my VHF antenna and I got trough the mast with no problems, but now how can I pass the wires trough the cabin? from the cabin roof ridge to the sides so I can keep them hidden? thanks
Welcome to the forum. If you search the forum you'll find a number of articles on this subject. It's possible to snake the antenna cable completely inside the boat from the DC panel along the starboard side, then across the transverse support in the cabin roof towards the mast step then up through a watertight fitting to the cabin top so there's no cable exposed inside the cabin except right at the radio. I have not done this yet, so I have no practical experience, but my current installation leaks water where the previous owner (or PP0) penetrated the cabin roof and didn't do such a good job of sealing it. I will eventually be replacing this whole run using the method mentioned above. I'm pretty sure Randy did this on Nautiduck, and there might be pictures.
Depends on where you mount your radio. After dropping my light fixtures, I was able to snake mine from light fixture access to light fixture access. Paul
Thanks for the tips. The mast support way has the problem that I can not access the top of it. The second way, I got access to the cabin roof trough the lights, but when you try to pass them down to starboard side it is close, I think at the joint of the cabin and the hull. I have tried with a sneak cable, but have been impossible to pass. I will try again. thanks
Barcalon, when I ran the coax I had to make several attempts to get the snake from the stbd side to the light fitting, don't recall if I went from the side up or the fitting down. Both have their obsticals, but you'll get it if you keep trying.
when I finally got a snake threaded, I passed a thin line which is still in place just in case I ever want to run another cable.
Also what worked for me was to run the coaxial toward the front of the boat as I was trying to feed it over and down the side of the cabin. Seems to me there was a larger space forward at the joint.
Finally I got it !!! Thanks to everybody for the tips. After two days trying with a common snake wire, I tried with snake with a flat line and a kind of pig tail in the tip. It passed right at the first try. Then I passed the coaxial by the union between the cabin and the hull all the way back to the galley. Went out perfect, all hidden. Thanks again for the help and congratulations for the forum. regards
