We go through spells where they are very bad...then, next time they are not there. I use the swatter, too. Wash the blood off immediately and it's not too bad on the gel coat.
Yesterday I used insect repellant for the first time, to combat the flies, and it worked well. The problem with a fly swatter is that, as soon as you kill one of the little buggers, another one takes it's place. Mother Nature created a never-ending supply of them.
