Last night I asked my wife if she wanted to take the dog and we spend the night of the boat. Because she had an early appointment in the morning she declined. I decided to jump in the car and drive to the marina. I did not raise the sails, just motored to a cove and dropped anchor. I read a book, drank a few Corona's and just looked at the sky with some ducks in the water near by waiting for a snack which they did not get. What a beautiful night. In the morning I made coffee and just sat looking at the water. In the water about twenty feet away a doe swam by the boat! Of course no camera on board to verify my story. I call my wife to share with her how my night and morning went, I told her this is why we bought our boat.

Sometimes standing still is the nicest part of being on the water--especially at dusk and dawn. My slip is 50 yards from my condo on a broad, quiet estuary--the boat becomes my scenic deck on the water in the evening, without even moving it.
Sounds pretty close to my Friday night and Saturday morning this last. I didn't get to the cove until dark. Centering yourself in a small cove in darkness is always interesting. I enjoy the sound of all the critters in the wood at night. That sound and gentle rocking of the boat makes for a good nights sleep.
Coffee in the morning, first in the cabin, then a little later in the cockpit makes for a great start to the day. A short while later I like to follow it up with a morning swim. I did get some sailing in on Saturday but I didn't get underway until noon, and just after lunch.
Whether you get out for a few days or a few hours, it sure gives you another perspective on life.
Sounds like my july 4th. I went for sail and anchored in bay with some friends and their boat. we watched fireworks. it was great. I spent nite on boat. best weekend I have ever had. Life is great, even if our wifes dont participate all the time!
