I sailed there back in 2000. There's a marina in Hartwell GA and another one on the SC side although I don't recall the name of the town (Big Water Marina??). http://www.bigwatermarina.com/ I think there is a yacht club on the SC side. You would probably want to be on that end of the lake because I think the lake is larger there, so the winds are better. I used to have a Capri 16 and that's what I had in Lake Hartwell. I got spoiled when I towed my Capri 16 to Hilton Head and sailed around here with more steady winds and dolphins coming up to watch me sail. My Capri never made it back to north GA. I think there are quite a few sailors on the big end of Lake Hartwell. It's good that you have a tall rig. Have fun!!
I live in Greenville SC and we are members of Keowee Sail Club. You have two options for sailing in the area, Lake Hartwell about 35 min drive from Greenville and Lake Keowee about 45 min drive from greenville. Both have sail clubs, Lake Hartwell has Western Carolina Sail Club and ours which is Keowee Sail Club. I have sailed in both, but I am partial of Keowee. Email me if you need more info.
