I have some old screw holes to repair in the non-skid deck. The holes have been filled and I'd like to finish with gelcoat.

I was thinking of making an epoxy mold of the non-skid pattern to shape the new gelcoat. Has any one tried this, or have another approach?

The mold would only need to be about the size of a quarter. Any ideas about what would serve as a good mold release?

Make a female mold using wax on the deck surface. Melted candles will work for that size. Then, fill the female mold with plaster of paris making a male mold (a replica of the surface) then make the resin mold on the plaster. The plaster will erode with water leaving you the impression you're looking for without sticking resin to your deck.
