Looking at the C25 poptop cover on e-bay that tom posted in the swap forum got me thinking.

While onboard Jesses' C25 Sea Trekker down in the keys, I saw for the first time how the pop top on a C25 worked. The top of the cabin raises up on 4 legs, then the cover extends to the sides of the cabin roof and in front. On the swap forum item, the cover extends around the mast where it zips up.

The C250 pop top is very functional, and it's easy to put up, but you do not get a fraction of the additional space provided by the C25 pop top. But then the C25 has a walkaround deck to the sides of the cabin unlike the C250 where the cabin sides extend to the rubbing strake.

Recently, Henk discussed changes to the pop top to allow keeping the cover in place but with the hatch lowered for securing the boat while ashore.

Any ideas (napkin drawings) on melding the two or a totally new design for the pop top that would encompass all the requirements of space, security and ease of putting up/taking down the pop top and cover?

The aspects that I feel should be addressed are:
1: Provision of adequate shelter with optimum space while maintaining the ability to go foreward.
2: Easy to put up/take down.
3: Not require a huge space to store the bits and pieces.
4: Abiility to secure the boat (although if someone wants to get in that badly then they could most likely just kick in the companionway panel.)

My Catalina 22 had the pop top style that you are mentioning (all four corners raised). I do not like it as well as the 250. It is a huge pain to raise so I would not raise it as often as the 250. Granted you were able to get a little better ventilation but the 250 forward hatch provides better air flow that the 22, so .....

Ditto what Don said. My C22 poptop was so heavy and awkward that we never used it. Count you blessings. The C250 top is much better.

I had an O'Day 23 with a pop top that raised on all four corners. I agree with the other postings. It was heavy, difficult to raise and hardly ever used. We use are 250 pop top requently.
