We sail on a small lake therefore there is never any waves over 2 feet. If there is 2 feet of chop the wind is probably blowin 25-30mph. So we have never experienced the "Clunk". We are looking to travel to some bigger lakes and am anticipating discovering some new characteristics of our boat. What kind of water conditions have to exist to cause the "clunk"?
If the keel head is fitted properly in the trunk you won't experience any clunk. That said, if you get on waters with some 'swell' and want to test for clunk, put your sails down and motor parallel to seas/swell so the boat rolls.
20 degrees of rollling and you'll probably find out if you have a 'clunker' or not. You could probably simulate this on your lake with a few friends aboard moving in unison from side to side. It might look a little funny tho. :>)
