Here is a photo from our very own International Association web site.

The boat in the background, then named Jo Ann, sail number 97992 is now named Indiscipline. She has moved from the Seal Beach Yacht Club to Cortez Racing Association. That is the same North shelf footed racing main I'll be flying in the race (wish I had that jib).

The boat in the foreground is owned by the same man as back in 1998 and is entered in the Newport Ensenada PHRF L and will be taking me on.

Jo Ann (Indiscipline) finished 4th back in 98 to his 3rd. So its a return "grudge" match for her. Both PHRF 228, both SR fin keels. So its a straight up match race, one design.

Thanks to my crew Joe Wergers for pointing this out. My comment upon finding out? "Bring it on."

Well your close Jim. Actually the boat in the foreground is "The Genie" and the boat in this years Newport-Ensenada Race (and conversely the 1998 Nationals) is Wind Haven, owned by Ross Hendricks. Wind Haven came in 3rd and Jo Ann (Indiscipline) came in 4th. I could not find any pictures of Wind Haven, but Ross races it frequently in Seal Beach Yacht Club and other local events. We may have to lasso him into getting involved with the association again over a Corona in Ensenada.

Jim, I'll sail out Friday evening and try raising you on VHF 71 on your journey south for the race. You planning on sailing close-in or on a straight line?
Good luck and keep your competition in sight. Don't take off on any "flyers" that might let them get ahead of you. If you get in front, don't let them tack away. Tack with them. If you get behind, work on sailing faster and overtaking.
And if the get alongside, hit 'em with the #8 cannon!!! Arrggh!

Based on the weather now, close in. Depends on what that cutoff low does. East of the low - headwinds, west, tail winds.
