Anyone want to comment on the choice of either a marine head (factory installed) or the stock portapotty (or an aftermarket marine head is another option)? I read one thread on this site that was not very complimentary (to say the least) about the factory marine head option.

I am in the process of deciding on options for a new C250WK.

Thanks in advance,

Kevin

It's a matter of need weighed against facilities. If the boat will be day sailed only, a porti potti makes great sense. The same is true if there is no convenient pump out facility. I'd suggest, unless there is a need for a marine head, keeping it simple is better.

On the other hand, if there is a pump out but no convenient porty discharge, (a rest room is not a reasonable porti discharge location) then a marine head makes good sense if the head will get much use. An alternative is to do a combination, a porti potti with pump out ability.

As to whether to go factory or owner installed, I'd rate the installation to be moderately difficult, made a bit easier by those who have gone before and can offer advice.

I'm not sure I agree with the factory location in the aft compartment, I chose a tank location aft of the wet locker. The aft compartment location in my opinion needs a tank monitor (more tech) whereas the aft wet locker location can be visually monitored.

Some are squeemish about the aft locker location visible to the aft berth. The tank level is only slightly noticable and a curtain could be used. I confess that my aft berth is rarely used and when it is, usually only one cushion is used for a quarter berth.

Agreed with Arlyn,
we have the porta potti (smallest size) it's easy to take care of and we have used the pumpout facility several times without incident. The biggest issue is a messy one... when too much potti, then it is not very porta! We now plan our trips so that we can pumpout/empty at every opportunity 2 days is ok, 3 is risky. We're going to upgrade to the next largest capacity.

If you do get a porta-potti, empty it before trailering! We didn't once, never again

We prefer the porta pottie ,but be sure you use the cooler brackets with a bungie to secure it.I won't go into the details of why.
I've had many boats with marine heads, and they all give an odor of either waste or chemicals.Simple works for us and only the girls get to use it.Boys use another method.

My 2005 WK came with the Marine Potty although I wanted a Porta model. My dealer sent me a Porta unit which I installed. My thoughts on the subject were we use the potty infrequently AND when we do we empty at the end of the day so it is just easier to use and if it every fails, I'll get another one. I still have the brand new factory marine head and may install in the future, especially if I go on longer cruises. (I have the best of both worlds eh?)
