Is it OK to turn the boom vang upside down? This would put the fiddle with the cam cleat in a better place to use. Right now I have to leave the wheel stretch from the cabin steps to let the vang out. Pulling it in is no problem.
Welcome to the board Terry. Yep, you found out pretty quick that the vang is really not the right tackle for the C250 setup. If you look in the owners manual, you'll see that they (catalina) include it in a drawing and it's obvious that it will require a trip fwd to release it from the cams.
I'm looking at running my boomvang line outside of the cam cleat, through a deck organizer and back towards the cockpit to a cam cleat there. The line will have to go through a centrally located deck organizer so that it is balanced when tacking. I recognize that it may tighten just a tad as the boom is allowed to swing out further, but at least that way it will be consistant on each tack.
