I installed my GPS this weekend, here are some photo's of how it came out. I will probably shorten that verticle tube so the GPS doesnt sit so high up, but I need play around with it to figure out how high I want it. One more useful position, which i didn't post a pic of, is rotating the gps so you can see it while sleeping in the aft berth. (My main motivation for getting a gps was anchor alarm. Now I dont need to get up to see if we have moved.)
Great idea - I have been looking for a way to be able to mount my gps such that I can easily move it in and out of the cabin. I hadn't thought of mounting it to the ladder..seems like a great place.
I actually think you want it to be high enough such tha you can see/adjust it while sitting in the cockpit. My current GPS is mounted too low to the right of the companionway and getting at it is a real pain.
