Has anyone found a 12 volt tv for there boat ? West marine has a 22" but it wont fit on the head wall , and if it was put by the galley next the companionway it would be tight and exposed to splash or rain if the hatch is open. I would lik to put it on the head wall a 15" is perfect. I found Quality Mobile Video in southern californa they said their moniters will work, with a tuner kit .They have a dvd setup to . Im wondering about power draw.and when power goes bellow 11 volts.
there are a lot of small tv,dvd combo's out there. a friend of mine bought one at walmart for about 40.00. we have a 12 inch tv/vhs and a seperate dvd player. we made a shelve that fits in the wasted space in the bow. i assume by your request for a 12 volt that you are not in a slip.but, if you are in a slip, run a power cord from the dock. then you can buy a regular plug in tv/dvd/vhs.
Sean, I have seen am/fm/tv's in 5-6 inch size screens advertised at places like Best Buy & HH Gregg. The one I have is am/fm/black and white tv :( but it has a 12v cigarette lighter adaptor to run in a car or in the boat. It worked great off of a portable battery in my living room when I was without power for a week after a major ice storm. About $20-40 depending on if they are on sale. Hope this helps.
We purchased a Polariod DVD player and TV docking station from Walmart for under $260 it works great off the boat 12v supply. Channel availability is obviously dependant upon location. We got several good ch's while off Elliot key. The the DVD has an internal rechargeable battery, the TV docking station required power. We purhcased an extra external rechargeable battery to power the TV ds. The whole unit is small enough to fit even in the aft berth. You need a bag to hold all of the bits (DVD player, TV docking station, Cables, Battery, Antenna) Now if it were plugged into an external antenna on the mast then....
Just an idea: A small LCD TV/DVD should draw less power than a conventional CRT screen. Prices have really come down on these and they mount flat to take up less space. I've seen them in best buy in the car audio dept. I've been thinking of getting one to keep my kids entertained below deck while mom and dad are sailing.

Does it work okay?<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote"> yep, that's the thing we bought. how well it works depends upon how many unencoded channels you get in your location. We found about 30 in Biscayne Bay, some spanish, some total mush, but quite a few good'ns. The DVD player is just that, works fine. We're taking it with us at the end of July when we go for a 6 day trip down to key largo and back. (taking a night or two at the Ramada in key largo slips for some R&R.) We'll have the second battery installed by then and the marine charger, should be a good trip.)
The Admiral an I found a 12" 12vdc w/ DVD and detachable speakers & wireless headphones. Was $650 at retail electronic store and $500 for same at Sam's Club. Last hurricane season I used it twice while power was out for several days running it on my deep cycle battery and charging it with my solar panel off Chick-a-pea. It is a LCD screen. The head phones are really the kicker. And it all fits neatly into a case w/ strap made to hang in the back seat of the car. But it also stands alone.
We bought a seawatch 2025 tv antenna from west marine p.174. I would like to mount a lcd tv permently to the head wall , we put the antenna off the stern rail seat with 1 inch clamps to a 5 foot 1 inch stainless bar. it looks good like a radar mast. Has anyone used this antenna ? still saveing for a tv
