Jerry Butz had replaced the turnbuckle on his C250WK with a block-n-tackle to enable quick adjusts. I'm contemplating taking it a step further and use a block-n-tackle to move the backstay just fwd of the port bimini tiedown eye strap. This would enable the backstay to be shifted to that position when at anchor (makes getting in and out of the port side walk through easier) Maybe the tackle doesn't need to be so long that it passed through the bimini, but long enough that when connected to a port side eye strap the slack in the tackle could be taken up.
Any ideas, already done that, don't do that, etc.?
When I spoke to the local dealer - he showed me his 250 WB which he had rigged the backstay with a snatch block and tackle so he could release the backstay altogether when not sailing, hence opening the port side access to the stern ladder. He said the backstay is only required when sailing so it was no big deal.
I was thinking of doing the same to my boat ( I have a 250 wk) since backstays do get in the way of me getting to the BBQ which is attached to the stern seats when at anchor/moored/berthed.
