Fred The Sail Loft near lake Lainer built and installed mine, I know the lady that does the sewing well, (but no discounts not even me ). They came out to the boat measured and built it to fit. Great job! quaility SS materials. I keep my boat on Lake Lainer in Aqualand marina if you want to check it out before you buy. I wanted to be able to stand under the bimini so they added a flatting reef to the main sail as part of the deal, that gave me a few more inches of height. Much cheaper than $1200 but much more than off the shelf. I live close to the boat and could meet you down there, shoot me an e-mail if you want to check it out.
Thanks, guys! Tom, I thought I recognized Aqualand! What is your slip number? I'll try to stroll over and have a look, and call the Sail Loft. I must say Keith's installation (with great detailed instructions) appeals due to the reasonable price, I just wish I could figure out how to get a window put in that to see the windex. Think the Sail Loft could do that? And then add the shade tarp? (That idea is brilliant- it can heat up the cabin quickly when the sun is shining through the companionway, as you know.)I guess I'll ask them all this. Fair winds and following seas, everyone! Fred
Keith, Tom and others- Chioce of fabric is something I haven't seen discussed. Sunbrella seems to be the gold standard, but "Sharkskin" is significantly less expensive. Keith, based on the price you had from iboats, you got sunbrella. Does anyone have any long term experience with Sharkskin?
Keith; I followed your advice, I think I had the next size gromets installed at an awning shop, I think they charged me $7.00, the bimini works great. I did the layout with the boat in the water, which adds some problems when using the plumb bob. I think it would be better to do the instillation on a trailer. I also had the bimini made from Sunbrella, I wouldn't consider any other option, no matter what the price difference. I also had them upgrade all of the hardware to stainless steel. Thanks for your help, Bill c250wb #134 Serendipity
I am glad to see it is working out for everyone. The first person who used it, I think it was Max Day, worked out some of the bugs in the instructions. I think now that at least five people have reported back it has worked out fine for them. I will try to get it moved to tech. tips. Keith
I'm researching a bimini for Sundew, and came across this thread. I'm interested in reviewing the top Keith D. installed, but the link provided takes one to the "we've moved" screen from the old association website. Any help on how to connect to the original post would be much appreciated.
