Found a sail in battery compartment. Must be my lucky day. Tag says SAIL.....CAT 25R/F GENOA LUFF.....28.26' LEECH....26.39' FOOT.....17.30' AREA.....240 SQFT WIEGHT...4 OZ Anyone know what size Genoa is this? paulj
Paul, there are several on this site who can answer your question, you might however post it to the general section for more consideration.
I've never played with sail size numbers but that seems like one huge sail (foot wise). J is only 9 feet on a c250 and you have a foot almost double that so I'm thinking you have a sail that would be near 185% on a c250...but again, I don't know much about sail measurments so I could be wrong.
At any rate, the main on a 250 is 135 sq ft and a 100% foresail is 130 sq feet for a total of 265 and the area of that genoa alone is 240, within 25 feet of the total of both main and jib.
The R/F probably means "roller furling" which would explain the longer foot since roller furling sails have a higher clew, hence a longer foot measurement.
To find the "percentage" of this genoa, first find the luff perpendicular measurement by measuring along a line from the clew to the luff that is perpendicular to the luff.
Take this LP measurement and divide it by your boats J dimension and it will give you the percentage of the sail.
Example: If your LP = 15' and your J dimension = 10' then 15/10=1.5 or a 150% genoa.
or if your sail's LP = 11, then 11/10 = 1.1 or 110 percent.
