Does anyone have another way to contact Belpat Marine? For six weeks I've been calling the number listed in the links section of this site leaving messages in a voice mailbox for Belpat with no response. Are they out of business?
I wanted to replace my halyard sheaves for my new rope halyards and Belpat sounded like the way to go.I really didn't want to spend $160.00 for CD's ball bearing sheaves.
Has anyone put 1/4" line in the stock wire halyard sheaves? It's not as tight as I thought it would be but it seems like the sheave should be a little wider.
If Belpat isn't available anymore does anyone have a line on reasonably priced sheaves that will accept 1/4" line and fit in my masthead?
CD Direct has regular sheaves for $40 (if I remember the price). I ordered 3/16 sheaves from them and am running all rope external halyards. You don't need the ball bearings. I ordered 3/16 V-12 kevlar line center spliced to 3/8 tail for my new main and jib halyards. West Marine beat Laylines price on the lines. This was far cheaper than the conversion to internal 5/16 halyards.
I ordered the solid, external, replacement masthead sheaves (Ronstan Acetal Solid Sheave RF1751) from CD a few years ago, but I never used them because the diameter of these sheaves (1.5") would have caused the halyards to chafe on the masthead unless the casting was ground down a bit. Additionally, the sheaves were for 1/4" line and I have 5/16" halyards.
I may still have these four new, never used sheaves in my "bits and pieces" tackle box on my boat and if indeed they are still there, you can have them for free.
I actually printed your post dated 4/23/04 for my files. The number you gave then was 631 205 5167, only two digits offThe number in the 'Links' page will get you a Belpat Marine voice mail but no one returns the calls. Thanks for the update, I'll try your new number tomorrow.
Don,thanks for your generous offer but it looks like a 1.5" sheave would allow the main halyard to drag on the front of the masthead.

That's one of the reasons I didn't use them.
Instead, I used the original wire rope sheaves in the masthead for my 5/16" halyards. These sheaves have a V-shaped groove with a small slot at the bottom of the V for the old wire rope. My 5/16" halyards lay quite nicely in this V and it has work smoothly for the last few years.
