I didn't see the add in Sail Magazine but there was a 250 in the Anapolis boat show this month, and the boat is still on the Catalina web site. Bill C250 wb #134 Serendipity
I'd like to think it was a case of too little space to squeeze a reference into the ad. However, with >6,000 25s and >800 250s produced since 1977 (making it one of their most enduring designs), you'd think they would find a way to mention it somewhere in there.
For what it's worth, mine is marked as a 2005 hull (produced August 2004).
That's a two-page spread that omits quite a few models... The 22 and 30 that are included have sold multiples of what the 25 or 250 has sold, and both speak well for our manufacturer, which is the primary purpose of the ad. Catalina's overall reputation and market presence is what what we should be concerned about. A two-page spread in sail is good for everyone.
BTW, do you suppose the C-47 owners scream when Catalina runs a full-page ad on the C-250 (which they've done)?
Catalina became a successful high volume boat manufacturer without advertising at all. Their thinking was that, if they built a good boat that represented a good value for the owners, then the owners would sell more boats by word of mouth. I would much rather have them put their resources into building a better boat than in enriching the publishers of a sailing magazine.
