Actually, I WAS on board the boat for 3 nights (Wednesday through Saturday) and sailed most of the time (4 days straight), then rafted up with JimB Friday night. Jim was off catching tons of Barracuda and throwing them back. He was looking for something to eat I think but had to settle for what he brought from home and what I bought at the store. Hint: when going sailing for 4 days and 3 nights one needs to do some serious thinking about eating right and then hit the store and shop. I got into the "zone" and didn't so had to bring the boat back to the slip and drive () to a store so I wouldn't starve (no bilge rats on my boat to put on the barbie). I sailed around 25 hours, mosty hunting down Jim on Indisipline. He on his standard rig, fin keel, 135 gennie sails slightly better up wind than me on my tall rig, wing keel, 110 jib. But I seem to sail better off and faster off the wind than he does. Of course, his boat is loaded down with a ton of fishing gear and other stuff. All in all a fantastic four days of sailing and anchoring in Mariner's Cove was, and is always, a real treat. Can't wait to do it all again soon (and I will )
For all you Fleet 7 folks....just put some food on board and join me or Jim or both real soon. You will not regret it. And remember: You can paddle your boat to the cove, motor it there, sail it there, push it there while swimming but you have got to do it!
Going to sail to the Coronados soon and anchor there, too. And will be doing the La Playa Cove in San Diego Bay also. And there is the August cruise to plan for. You ARE going, aren't you?

Fleet 7 guys - I STRONGLY recommend joining us on some of these trips. They are getting us ready for the Catalina voyage. Don't recommend that your first long sail, overnighter, anchorage, etc be 100 miles to windward in a cove on Catalina Island.
I am whipped after these trips (4 hours sailing Friday, 6 hours Saturday in good winds and rough conditions, anchor down, anchor up, 12 fish on board, and living in a small space with no headroom). And I sail every day!!! So you gotta toughen yourself IF you are going on the August Adventure.
Santa Barbara Island is 55 miles offshore, 25 miles from the West End of Catalina, and I'm leaving August 2. Better get serious about getting ready if you're coming!
Jim and Gary, My son was selected to the 11-year old All-star team in our league. I was equally honored to be named the manager of the team. This means every afternoon for the next three weeks I have committments to my team. The weekends are a different story. You're right there's is a lot to do for the August trip.
Doug and Mo, It sounds like you had a great time in P-cola(trailer problems excluded). It will good to have you back on L Dock.
Saturday about 1:30 PM we are dropping my mast and replacing the sheaves. If you can make it to give us a hand I would appreciate it. I have all the parts ready. If not, I think the Baumgart family can get it done (we'll all be there).
I am going to stay, spend the night anchored out, and go fishing early Sunday if anyone else is interested.
Not sure whether we will be over Friday night or Saturday morning but should be there to help regardless. We might wait to raise the mast on Valkyrie until we get it to the dock.
We could have a mast raising, lowering, raising party!
Hey Fleet 7, Which Marina are you docked?, I am looking for a marina for my 1996 250, I have looked a little and it seems most of marinas i visited are on a waiting list, i am in arizona but will leave the boat in san diego. It is cheap to fly over and stay on the boat, ( once i get a slip). Any suggestions, as far as marina, thanks, dewwey ,"Come Alive" #180
Call Inneka (pronounced In-a-ka) at the Marina Village office, tell her you are with Fleet 7 and mention my name (Jim Baumgart). There are a couple of open 28 foot slips, and maybe some 25 footers on the other docks. At the very least you can get on the waiting list. The Marina is pretty full now BUT people are going to start pulling their boats out in August and it will be wide open all this fall and winter (in the 25 foot range).
We sail year-round. It's a rare day you can't take your C25 out and at least cruise around Mission Bay. Plus for you "zonies" there is plenty to do around San Diego, using your boat as a floating condo. Marina Village and Mission Bay is a very nice place to hang out.
Try to get on L dock and I can help keep an eye on your boat when you are gone. I sail every day, often have lunch there, too (work is 10 minutes away).
Our new friend from China Lake got a guest slip for 4th of July weekend with one phone call. There is also Driscoll's, which is just next door to L dock.
Doug, if you guys are going tobe there then I have nothing to worry about doing my repair (parts arrived from Catalina Direct). I expect mast down, new sheaves/clevis pins, new Windex, mast up, put roller furling / main sail back on and go sailing in a couple of hours.
We can't wait to hear about the BEER cruise and I hope you can bring some photos. If you have prints, I can take some home and get them scanned and put them on the Fleet 7 web page (also known as the Catalina 25 National Association Cruising page).
