While waiting for my motor to clear customs; I am anticipating putting a marine head in my 250/wb. Now the dealer says it will cost him about $1200 to install a marine head. Looking at some of the mods listed on various sites, it looks like I can do it myself for $300 or $400. My question is to those that have done this mod; how easy was it to do and how is odor control? Parts from West Marine? good price as any?
I would rate the project as a fairly involved one but not necessarily difficult. A deck pumpout fitting is not too hard, intake seacock is not difficult, mounting tank takes a fair effort, setting the head is fairly easy, piping is in my opinion a little more complicated but not difficult in the doing. Getting them all planned well is the hardest part.
It has been 6-7 years since I did mine and I can't recall the time it took, but I expect it was several evenings of effort.
I don't have any interior odor problems, but there are times when the head is used when the vent discharges a strong odor that can drift to the cockpit.
I think I used West Marine as my sole provider of components.
