Sailnet has double clutches on sale for $75.61. And, oh by the way, if you take a copy of an internet price quote to your local West Marine or Boat US they will often times match the price. http://www.sailnet.com/store/item.cfm?pid=22203

Not sure I need any clutches right now, but appreciate the heads up about this sale. Mine are good shape and work very. very well. Now a self tailing winch, that's something I could get excited about!

Surely I have shopped at Sailnet and saved money over the EMPIRE on occasion. However.....just a thought here.....I go to West Marine to talk to a real human being when I need help or advice. At my local store, there are actually knowledgeable sailors, not just minimum wage teenagers scanning prices....
I think we should expect to pay a bit more for goods from these stores.....I am glad we have them, where we can go in and handle the hardware....Let's some of us buy SOME of our stuff...even at the small, Mom and Pop stores that still provide "Service". It's going away, folks......just think it over....
With respect,

And, yes, I made a another post about 10% off rigging the other day....but he's a "little guy" who gives SERVICE, not a megalopolous....
I try hard to support my local dealer, I consider him an old friend. However I was less than impressed with the price he charged me on my bottom job and I am too "modern" not to use the internet. I really like SailNet and Layline for sailing hardware, I use the Defender and West Marine catalogs for "nautical" items. I use my local dealer for fasteners and impulse purchases. One thing I try to make myself do is... If I figure out some harware solution at the local dealers I buy those items from him. It is very unfair to use a local place to figure stuff out and then buy the components on line. (I have started using Lowes for fasteners.)

Hi Gary,
You're lucky to have someone at West Marine who can give you advice. We had ONE guy at the San Antonio West Marine who knew anything about sailboats, and he moved to Corpus Christi. Last time I was at West Marine they had to make a long distance call to him to get the answer to my question.
The internet prices allowed by West Marine still provided them with a profit. I too use some of the local expertise. In fact the Fort Walton Beach store has a guy that worked for Catalina for 30 years! But, the bottom line on shopping around and price matching is to get the best deal. I think it's called competition and free enterprise.
