For those of you who are inland sailors and haven't been around marine mammals... I can't describe to you how bad that boat must smell.
The "Marine Mammal Protection Act" has created exploding populations and big problems in the Pacific Northwest.
These critters are multiplying like rats and you are prohibited from 'interfering or harassing' them in any way.
Marinas are being abandoned due to wholesale 'takeovers' of their docks... boats sunk and destroyed, endangered Salmon runs are being nailed by huge sea lion colonies waiting at the river mouths.
I guess their numbers will someday be brought back in balance when the Great White Sharks become so numerous you can't go near the water.
Up until a hundred years ago, (or so) they were hunted by the Native Americans.. which helped keep the populations in balance.
The legislative protection is largely due to the "Bambi Syndrome" . They look 'cute and cuddly' in the pictures... until you have to deal with the overpopulation issue.
Funny how we all have the same problems under different circumstances. The environmentalists and politicians are able to drain our lakes in the name of saving the "endangered" silvery minnow. They too have Federal protection. Forget the farmers, ranchers and others who need the water. Not to mention the communities that survive only on the money spent by anglers and recreational boaters. We are forced by 100 year old laws to send what water is left to people downstream (Texas) and all we can do is sit by and watch.
We don't have enough water. You have to many animals. Does anybody realy have "Boating Bliss", where the actions of others does not effect our sport? (I still think I'd like your problem over ours. At least they are not sitting on a sailboat that's sitting in the mud.)
