Just bought a 84 25 tr/sk. It has a authelm 1000. There appears to be some parts missing....ie. nothing attached to the tiller and probably some other parts missing. Is it worth researching or is it basicly obsolete!
Also on the port side in the cockpit, I have a shifter/throttle mounted below the port seating just aft of the companionway. It is just forward of the manual bilge pump. It allows me to operate my 8hp evinrude from the helm rather than leaning over...pretty nice but not perfect. In addition there is an electrical screw off cap that allows access to some sort of plug (not a cigarette lighter)I dont believe it is related to the throttle. PO had no idea.
The plug in question is prob for the autohelm, it is kinda different. I have the manual for this unit, if you like I can fax it or mail it. Send me an email at frich@optonline.net
I may have one of the parts that you need. I bought an older AutoHelm Tiller Pilot in 1998 from the Boat/US discounted items. It required a small (perhaps 4-inch) extension to fit the cockpit dimensions. I bought the part and was burglarized before I got installed the tiller pilot. Believe it or not, the tiller pilot and a depth finder were among my loses. I think that the extension is in my car. See if this may be one of your needs. I am at sea on a platform returning home 21 October.
FYI: This is my second season with my Autohelm ST1000 Plus and I am in the process of shipping it off for service because it appears to have a problem with the drive belt. It worked fine the first season and most of this season, but lately it started misbehaving. It would growl and squeal when positioning the ram and on occasion the ram would be still while the motor/drive belt squealed to move it.
I believe that the drive belt has lost some teeth and needs replacing. Fortunately it is still under warranty, but I'm wondering if I should inquire about upgrading to the ST2000 with it's recirculating ball drive instead of having this repaired.
In the past I've recommended the ST1000 for the C25, because until now I have not had any issues with it, but since I've experienced this problem I might have to change my recommendation. I must add that I use my autopilot extensively(singlehander) and I probably spend vastly more time on the water than your average C25 sailor(or any average sailor for that matter), but I only use the autopilot in conditions that it can handle and I try to sail with as balanced of a sail plan as I can tweak.
If I were in the market for an autohelm, I would opt for the 2000 over the 1000 for the reasons you describe. Also, as I understand it, the 2000 has more remote options and better interface with GPS and chartplotters. Also, it will drive up to a 32 foot boat, hence is transferable to the next boat...
If I weren't so cheap I would probably have bought an autotiller by now. I single hand 80% of the time, and I sail a lot, often in bad weather over long distances. Everything is led aft, including reefing lines, and I am very good at heaving to when I need to go below to make lunch or whatever. I guess in those circumstances I would rather be hove to than moving along at a nice clip under autotiller. Still...

Dave:
I'm kind of cheap too. But I have a Navico tiller-pilot and think it's the best upgrade I've done hands down. Sailnet.com occasionally puts the Simrad TP10 (aka Navico) on sale for $199 (Simrad TP10). It doesn't have GPS/plotter hookup, but I don't think that's worth the extra $200+ for occasional course adjustment duties I'd prefer to do myself. It also doesn't come with remote-control, but I'm uncertain if that has value. I believe most on this site us Autohelm, but the Simrad rates very high (Practical Sailor) and is a great, lower-cost unit.

I have the remote and I'm uncertain if it has value?!
Richard, I like your signature photo. I have a print on my office wall that is of a bunch of dingies tied up at a very small dock. I serves to remind me that no matter how big the boat, people all come ashore in a little dingy. I don't know, some how it makes me smile.
I think I love that little boat more than my C25. In fact, if/when I sell "Sanity", I have no doubt that I will keep "Sweet Pea" (as long as she will have me).
She rows and sails well. I probably daysail her much more than the C25.
She motors pretty good, albeit not very fast with a little 1.5 hp air-cooled Eska. And she's very heavy, making it sometimes feel like I'm towing around an ore barge.
But my kids are growing fast, which is making room a little tight in her with 4 people...I'll probably supplement her duties with an inflatable next season.
