Regrettably the Canyon Lake folks will not be able to bid on the Nationals next year. The Club members charter a flotilla of boats in the BVI every other year (and next year is it! <img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>) Almost all the sailors and racers will be going for the last half of June and there's no one left to run an event...bummer! However, for 2005... Derek

Of the 8 racers who expressed an interest in coming, 2 could only come at the end of June. When does school let out? (Where I went, we got out at the end of July...) I'm amenable to any other dates as long as we can get sufficient entries. In July we would be even more at Aeolus's mercy than in May or June. Anyone have any solutions?? Derek
School being out was a factor I heard about that kept people from this year's Nationals over father's day w/e. Tough for teachers to get away at that time, and for parents to get away with kids in school. Other dates might work, but one of the things I'd want to know about is the typical winds at the time of the event. I sailed on Lake Travis near Austin one summer with my Laser and there was virtually no wind. Makes for a very uncomfortable championship. From Derek's comments I'm guessing Canyon Lake has little wind in July and August.

The regatta may be held anytime between May 1st and October 1st according to the Associations Bylaws. I, for one, would consider any date that works for the hosts and has good attendance planned. September is great for sailing in this area but again, school is back in session as well.

Derek, Do you plan on joining in the BVI floatilla? I live in St. John USVI. I would like to meet you and have you join me for a sail if your schedule allows. We run a Wed. afternoon pursuit race here in Coral Bay, it would be great if you could join me for a fun little race. Coral Bay St. John is only about an hour sail from Roadtown Tortola. It's a great place to visit and spend a night. There are a lot of anchoring choices. Hurricane hole offers peace and quiet, while Coral Harbor has a couple of bar/restaurants and a grocery store.
Shawn - many thanks for the invite. I never go on the bi-annual flotilla (I prefer the Windwards - less crowded!) I think that there are already 7 boats chartered by the Club for next year! Derek
